Data Acquisition System for Aircraft Fatigue Testing

Summary: This is a VXI-based structural test system for business jet aircraft. The customer required a turnkey data acquisition system complete with application software. We supplied a DAQ Director™ system for this application.


This system is used for static and dynamic structural testing on full-size corporate jet aircraft. Our DAQ Director, operating under Windows NT, provides the software application for this system. Our FOXI fiber optic interface provides the communication between the host PC and the VXI mainframe, using a V122 PCI interface and a V120 Slot-0 controller. A V208 host ADC module, along with a V243 low-level signal conditioner and seven V241 high-level multiplexer modules handle approximately 600 channels of strain gage, thermocouple and pressure inputs. The system scans each of the channels at 100 samples per second.

Our SC20 bridge signal conditioner cards were not available when this system was purchased; therefore, third-party signal conditioners were used, with their high-level outpu ts coupled to V241 multiplexer channels. In addition to the analog channels, the system monitors 16 isolated digital Inputs and provides 16 form-C relay contact outputs. An IRIG time interface module was included to provide time stamping.
